Gillian asks:

I have £6,000 in credit card debts and own my own property (with a mortgage). I have around £100,000 equity and would like to know if I should remortgage to clear my debts?

You may find it difficult to get a mortgage at this time and it would certainly cost quite a lot of money. I don't know your age but if the repayment is over the term of the remaining mortgage,  the repayments might be relatively low but the repayment amount could be as much as £30,000 over a long mortgage.

If you have a good credit rating you should speak to your bank and ask about a personal loan with favourable repayment rates.  If you are given such a loan, make sure you use it to clear your cards.  If it is hard or impossible to get credit, you could look into setting up a Debt Management Plan which could see payments as low as £50 a month and would repay the £6,000.
